Circular fitout toolkit for offices.
The Better Buildings Partnership, in collaboration with Aurecon and the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA), has designed and delivered a Circular Fitout Toolkit for Offices. The toolkit offers practical, concise guidance to equip fitout project teams with circular economy strategies and approaches that can be integrated into their fitout design.
As businesses and brands constantly evolve and spaces are reconfigured, office fitouts can be a notoriously wasteful process. Design techniques are defined without consideration of disassembly and material choices without proper sustainable assessment, and strip-outs occur before the end of product or component’s service life.
By adopting circular principles to increase the functional life of regularly replaced products and components, office fitouts in Australia can become more sustainable, economically viable, and align with the growing demand for sustainable business practices.
Who should use this toolkit?
This toolkit is primarily designed for fitout design teams, owners and occupiers – but can be used by anyone involved in a circular fitout. In particular, modules 1 and 2 are recommended reading for anyone beginning a circular fitout journey.
The toolkit has been carefully designed to complement the GBCA’s evolving Green Star – Interiors tool: Green Star Fitouts.
Outcomes of using this toolkit
The toolkit will:
- upskill users on circular economy approaches and design practices
- provide a step-by-step modular and practical approach to circular design of fitout
- support users to increase collaboration across their supply chain, and influence decision-making as early as possible
- assist in achieving the GBCA Green Star Fitouts rating
